I have entertained the notion of reimagining the homes we live in for a while. Basel House is my first step into the exploration that is certain to only get increasingly interesting as it grows.

This one is designed with primarily the two main wings of a 787. We quickly determined there will not be many 787 wings retiring and available any time soon. But it is our favorite design and we followed through hoping to find some wing of something that may work with the design. It is our favorite.
This one is ranch style with the whole place on one floor. There are private compartments made from fuselage chunks laid on their sides as well as an engine casing that can house much of the mechanical parts of the house along with a fireplace. There is a lot of cathedral like ceiling space throughout. The type of aircraft that will lend themselves to this design are Pan Am DC-4, Conair DC-6B or Douglas DC-7C.
This uses chunks of the fuselage of a 747. Really any plane with a slightly larger body could lend itself to this design since almost all jet aircraft have this body shape. This one feels more beach house and being up on the stilts would make it better if the land is close to or on the beach.
This one uses the tail and part of the elevator (rear wing) from a 737. Again, this is not a plane that is likely to retire soon, but the design may lend itself to other aircraft with minor adjustments. Its an idea where the focus is on the significant atrium space for growing plants/food, etc. Possibly not a design needed in Miami but could be useful somewhere else where outdoor growing time is limited.
This one uses the main wings of a foreign aircraft (Ilyushin IL-86). Again these designs are the hopeful starting place for the aircraft parts we can actually locate in the Miami area. Fingers crossed on one of theses designs. Hopefully one will both have accessible parts and lend itself to all the environmental concerns and components that will make it have a zero or minus footprint.
This is also a house designed with the wings of a 747. AGAIN, it is not likely to be the plane we can acquire for this but it remains in the running because of the design. The design may be possible with another wing from something that is available. I like this one because of the way it affords great privacy and almost a fortress from two sides while being completely open throughout the bulk of the house.
This one is a favorite because of the amazing openness of the whole design. Again it uses part of the wing of a 747. We will be looking for something comparable to that for the real house if this is the one we go with. There is still a lot to do in order to figure out which is the best design for the job.
