This Door

This door...
Originally built to close, to lock,
to keep some in, to keep some out.
A barrier between two different lives.
One that is welcome, one that is not.

The human race in it's pursuits
seeks not to heal, to mend, to join.
When wounds do sever father from son
a door is built, a key, a lock.
A barrier between two different lives.
One that is welcome, one that is not.

This door... let it be open, off it's hinges,
bolt withdrawn.
Rebuilt now to foster talking
over bread, meat, fruit and wine.
At this place, now all are welcome.
All who wish to mend, to heal.
Let all voices here be lifted
and let this door never more be locked.
